We pride ourselves on having been one of the pioneers in the field of bariatric surgery.

Dr. Thomas Y. Chua has been involved with bariatric surgery since 1975, and has performed over 3000 gastric bypasses, and over 650 LAP-BAND® procedures. His diverse practice also involved general surgery, vascular surgery.

He performed the first laparoscopic gall bladder surgery in Wisconsin in December of 1989 and performed the first laparoscopic Vertical Banded Gastroplasty in the United States in February 1993.

He also performed the first LAP-BAND® procedure in Wisconsin in February of 2001 before the FDA approved the device in June of 2001.

In addition, as a well-respected instructor, he has shared his knowledge in the field of laparoscopic surgery and bariatric surgery and has taught over 1000 surgeons in the US and abroad.

Dr. Chua is board certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Our private physicians office has been designated as one of the Centers of Excellence by the American Society of Bariatric Surgery because of our dedication to caring for our bariatric patients, as well as our safety record and years of experience.

In addition, he has been performing abdominal Lipectomy for more than 20 years, including other body contouring surgical procedures such as trunk, arm and thigh reductions.

Dr Chua also provides Tumescent Liposuction procedures to accommodate patient requests for cosmetic enhancement and to achieve a more conventional body size so that they can use standard size clothing and accommodations designed for mainstream consumption. These procedures are performed entirely under local anesthesia, and can be done on an out-patient basis in our offices.



Dr. Laura July graduated with honors from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.Sc. in Anatomy. She received her M.D. from the University of Saskatchewan then went on to complete her General Surgery Residency at the University of British Columbia , Vancouver , Canada . Dr. July completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric surgery with Dr. Emma Patterson at Legacy Health System in Portland , Oregon . She is a board certified surgeon with a special interest in the treatment of obesity.



Prior to joining Wisconsin Bariatrics, Dr. Rudic served in private practice in Milwaukee for over five years, gaining particular expertise in assessing and treating pre – and post – operative patients. His specialty areas of interest include metabolism of obesity, pathophysiology and management of malabsorption. Dr. Rudic is a graduate of the University of Belgrade in Yugoslavia and completed his post-graduate medical training at the University of Chicago.
